How much does mold removal and remediation cost?

A typical question from clients is "How much does mold remediation, removal and cleanup cost?"

There is no set unit pricing for mold remediation, removal and cleanup. There are many factors that affect removal costs including materials that are mold infected (wood, plaster, flooring, etc.), geographic location, location of the mold (is it throughout the structure?, is it in the duct work?, is it behind the walls?), disposal and transportation costs.

The Mack Group, LLC has the expertise and experience to develop cost estimates for a simple mold removal abatement project to an entire facility wide mold removal project. We can provide a cost estimate as well as firm pricing and, of course, we can professionally and safely execute the actual mold abatement. We look forward to providing you consulting, estimating or contracting services on your next mold removal project.

The Mack Group Provides Nationwide Mold Removal and Remediation Services

The MACK Group, LLC recently completed a large mold and moisture remediation project for a Fortune 500 industrial client. The work was performed in response to moisture infiltration of building components which subsequently produced mold.

The MACK Group, LLC (MACK) was selected to perform the project based on their expert level of mold remediation and removal contractor services, their professional reputation, their attention to safety and schedule as well as their economical approach to mold removal services.

All mold removal work was performed in compliance with all applicable USEPA guidelines as described in the document “Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings” and all ancillary OSHA standards pertaining to general contractor work practices. In order to provide minimal disturbance to the client’s on-going operations, work was performed during off hours and weekends.

The mold impact and mold growth was located along the perimeter walls and window wells of the building. These walls and wells were comprised of plaster on wire lathe. It is believed that mold growth resulted from leaks and or condensation from plumbing supplying the wall mounted HVAC systems in the window wells.

The remediation scope of work consisted of: Protection of all floor surfaces used for outside access utilizing 6 mil plastic sheeting and Masonite; Pre-cleaning of the work areas with HEPA vacuums to remove all pre-existing debris from floors, HVAC system covers and other horizontal surfaces; Isolation of the perimeter walls and window wells and venting of the work areas with HEPA filtered air filtration devices; installation of airtight polyethylene critical barriers over HVAC system covers within the window wells; Removal of visible mold growth by light sanding, scraping or use of nylon brushes; Application of a anti-microbial paint to the remediated surfaces; Post-remediation HEPA vacuum cleaning; Successfully passing final inspection and final air clearances.

Waste materials were bagged immediately, sealed and removed after each shift. These bagged materials were placed into covered carts which had to be transported carefully through the building to the waste dumpster. All wastes were properly disposed offsite.

The project was a complete success as it was accomplished on schedule, without injury or incident and within the client’s budget.

Mold Remediation and Mold Removal Services by The MACK Group, LLC

The Mack Group, LLC is an expert mold remediation and abatement contractor
Mold Remediation Basics

The purpose of mold remediation is to remove the mold to prevent human exposure and damage to building materials and furnishings.
It is necessary to clean up mold contamination, not just to kill the mold.
Dead mold is still allergenic, and some dead molds are potentially toxic.

The MACK Group, LLC considers the following questions when planning the remediation of mold:

Are there existing moisture problems in the building?
Have building materials been wet more than 48 hours?
Are there hidden sources of water or is the humidity too high (high enough to cause condensation)?
Are building occupants reporting musty or moldy odors?
Are building occupants reporting health problems?
Are building materials or furnishings visibly damaged?
Has maintenance been delayed or the maintenance plan been altered?
Has the building been recently remodeled or has building use changed?
Is consultation with medical or health professionals indicated?

Mold Remediation Means and Methods

A variety of mold cleanup methods are available for remediating damage to building materials and furnishings caused by moisture control problems and mold growth. This may include:

Wet Vacuum
Damp Wipe
HEPA Vacuum
Interior Demolition - Building materials and furnishings that are contaminated with mold growth and are not salvageable should be double-bagged using 6-mil polyethylene sheeting. These materials can then usually be discarded as ordinary construction waste. It is important to package mold-contaminated materials in sealed bags before removal from the containment area to minimize the dispersion of mold spores throughout the building. Large items that have heavy mold growth should be covered with polyethylene sheeting and sealed with duct tape before they are removed from the containment area.

The MACK Group, LLC selects remediation personnel who have the experience and training needed to implement the remediation plan and use Personal Protection Equipment and containment as appropriate.

Remediation and Cleanup Final Steps

The MACK Group, LLC makes sure the mold remediation is complete by:

Making sure the water or moisture problem is completely fixed.
Use of professional judgment to determine if the cleanup is sufficient. Visible mold, mold-damaged materials, and moldy odors will not be present.
Via air sampling, the kinds and concentrations of mold and mold spores in the building should be similar to those found outside, once cleanup activities have been completed.
We revisit the site(s) shortly after remediation to look for signs of water damage or mold growth.
The clients personnel and tenants will be able to occupy or re-occupy the space without health complaints or physical symptoms.
